In Class Adventurers our teacher is Mrs Bowler and our teaching assistant is Miss Naz. Mrs Nizzer will also be working with us in Reception.

Class Codes

  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  • Respect everyone and everything.
  • Be a good listener and try your best.
  • Be proud to be in the Victoria team.
  • Show good manners.

British Values

As part of our British Values in Reception we will be learning about Democracy by encouraging the children to make decisions together.  One of the ways we will be doing this is by holding class votes for example a class vote for who will be part of the School Council. The importance of valuing each others feelings and views will be embedded in the day to day learning. The children will be taught the importance of having rules and routines in place within the school and classroom. This will also be linked to the wider community such as the police and people who help us.

Children will always encouraged to think about their actions and make good choices. As part of our topics such as All About Me, we will be learning about how we are all different and how this should be celebrated. Children will be encouraged as part of their self confidence and self awareness to feel confident to express their needs and opinions. Mutual respect and tolerance will be part of the underpinning the values in Reception. An ethos of inclusion will be embedded where the children are sensitive to the needs and beliefs of others. This will be encouraged through the importance of sharing and respecting opinions.

Our reading area

Early Years

There are seven areas of learning In Early Years that we will be focusing on throughout the year in Reception.  These are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the world and Expressive Arts and Design.

EYFS Development Matters Handbook

All children start the day with their picture on the GREEN smiley face.  They try hard to stay on the green smiley face by being kind to their friends and making good behaviour choices. Children are then rewarded with stickers, small prizes and GOLDEN TIME if they stay on green.

Golden Time can consist of some outdoor fun, face painting, dancing, sports, and snacks! A well-deserved reward for children who work hard to do their best at all times.

The children have a daily phonics session to help them learn their sounds and to read and write. Each child has a sound mat to take home to help them learn to read and write their sound at home too. Below you will find an attachment that includes the sound mats children have been given to take home and they also use in class to help them with their sounds.

In addition, students have been learning and practicing their TRICKY WORDS. Tricky Words do not follow the usual phonetic rules, so students are encouraged to memorize them. This will help them in both their reading and writing progression.

Phase 2 Tricky Words: I, go, no, to, into, the, me

Phase 3 Tricky Words: he, she, we, be, you, was, my, all, they

Reading Books and Homework Sheets

Children will have an individual reading and library book to take home weekly. They have already read the book at school so please help them to practise reading it at home. Don’t forget to write a comment so that we can see that they have read. When they have read 25 books at home, they are awarded the bronze Reading Olympic certificate in assembly. The next challenge is to read 50 books for the silver award and then 100 books for the gold award. They are also bringing home weekly homework. This also gives you an overview of what they have been learning during the week. Please complete the homework activities with your child and ensure that your child brings their homework back every week.

Come and Stay sessions starting soon

All parents/carers are invited to our weekly come and stay sessions every FRIDAY morning between 9:10-10:00. You can be apart of your child's learning, and also allow them to show off their skills, their classroom and their new friends!
