Homework

Homework is set every Friday to be returned by the following Tuesday.  Children are given a piece of English and a piece of Maths work to consolidate their learning in class.  At times there may be homework related to other aspects of the curriculum.  There will also be some research topics to find out about at different times of the year.  Please support your child with their homework and encourage them to try their best.  Thank you!

Reading Olympics

As part of our Reading Olympics we encourage children to read daily at home.  Please support your child to read on a daily basis and sign their Reading Journals.  We aim to hear all of the children read in class through individual and guided reading.

Class Representatives

This year's School Council Representatives are Safa and Shekeeb.  These children were voted for by their classmates.

This half-term's Behaviour Ambassador is Hadya who was chosen by the class themselves.

The class' Smartbots are Dawar and Shokria.

The class' Sports Council Representatives are Abdullah and Esha.

Creative Curriculum

Our topics enable us to develop and apply knowledge and skills in different areas of the curriculum, such as history, geography and art.  These lessons take place during the afternoon.  Where possible, we go on educational visits or invite visitors in, so that we develop our learning and understanding more.  These are the topics that we will be covering each half-term.

Our Classroom 1 Our author this term is Quentin Blake.
Our Classroom 2 We are superstars in Year 3!

Our Trip to the Museum of Cannock Chase

Year 3 went on a fantastic trip to the Museum of Cannock Chase in May.  The class learnt a great deal more about World War II thanks to Lesley from the museum.  The highlight of the day had to be the pretend air raid!  The children had to wear their gas masks and hide under the tables in the blackout whilst listening to realistic sound effects.  It was very interesting being able to handle some artefacts from the war and take part in the evacuation role-plays.

World War II Guest Speakers

Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to hear from two guest speakers who were children during the war.  The class were so interested to learn about their very different experiences during this sad time.  Thank you so much to Mr and Mrs Manners!

May Day Assembly 2017

On Thursday 4th and Friday 5th May the class, alongside Year 4, performed an assembly to the whole school and their parents about May Day.  The assembly was well-attended and extremely enjoyable!  There were numerous dances from around the world and the class also sung the 'May Day Song'.  Malaika and Junior did a very good job as the May Queen and May King.  The class particularly enjoyed dancing around the maypole and didn't manage to get the ribbons tangled up!  Well done!

Bollywood

The class' theme for the spring 2 half-term was 'Bollywood'.  The theme was introduced with a fun Bhangra workshop.  We learnt about the history of Bhangra and Bollywood first of all.  Then we had a workshop where we learnt some Bhangra dance moves and used the Bhangra drums.  The whole school even joined in with our performance at the end of the day in assembly!

World Book Day 2017

The class had a great time on Friday 3rd March celebrating World Book Day.  We came to school dressed as all sorts of different characters from books that we have read this year.  We had to bring in our favourite book from home and we produced some bunting that will be displayed at the Waterstones bookshop in town!  Next Tuesday, we will  be visiting there to buy a book!  We also researched more about our class' author for this term, Dick King-Smith.  Do you like our costumes?

Computing Open Morning

On Thursday 2nd March we had a Computing Open Morning.  Parents were invited in to see lots of different activities taking place around the school.  Many activities this week had been based around computing activities also.  Some parents came to join us when we looked at the wealth of resources on Espresso and Education City.  We were also shown the school's website and our class' page.  We enjoyed looking back at all the fun activities that we have done this year!  We have been busy in Year 3!

Our First Topic of 2017 - Europe

The class really enjoyed the first Creative Curriculum theme of the year, 'Europe'.  The children spent different weeks learning about countries in the continent such as Spain, Italy, France and Poland.  The theme came to a close when we celebrated 'European Day' when we travelled around different European countries for the day, learning about their culture.  The countries we visited were Greece, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.  Lots of fun activities took place such as food tasting, traditional dancing, fact finding and crafts.  We all had a passport that we took with us and drew a flag in each location which acted as that country's stamp.

During the same week we also took part in a workshop with a theatre group which was so exciting!  We went on a 'Journey around Europe' learning about different European countries in an unusual way.  Have a look at some of our photographs!

N.S.P.C.C. Number Day 2017

We had a great time on Friday 3rd February when we took part in Number Day!  We took part in lots of fun mathematical activities throughout the day to raise money for this important charity.  Our favourite was 'Who wants to be a Mathionaire?' We liked 'Dressing Up for Digits' and we managed to wear a digit on our clothing!  The school raised lots of money because we brought in a donation.  Thank you for your support!

Our Trip to the National Space Centre

Our second theme of the academic year was 'Space' and partway through this we had an amazing trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester!  It really was quite an experience and we learnt so much!  The highlight of the trip was the planetarium show towards the end of the day when we found out more about being an astronaut.
